DOG POINT CHARDONNAY 2023 Marlborough, South Island ... incredibly tightly coiled and mineral on the nose, with white flowers, crushed shells, wet chalk and white pepper. This is overwhelming “white” in character, and I love it. The saline, mineral aspect of it is highly attractive to me, and as it unfolds like an origami paper crane through the finish, it shows precision and finesse in equal measure ... This is sapid and penetrating in its quiet way. Wow. Drink date: 2025-2043. A rich, mouth-filling palate, generous in tropical fruit and citrussy acid drive, which tightens up to a nicely crisply saline, long dry finish. Lovely now but fruit intensity and balance suggest this will mellow nicely in the bottle too. Richelle Tyney joined Greywacke in 2021, bringing steady-handed finesse to an already very smart collection of wines. Drinking window: 2025- 2032. Pristine and fabulously lifted, the bouquet shows green apple, sweet basil, kaffir lime and subtle musky aromas, followed by a wonderfully flavour some palate that’s juicy and lively. SUNDAY SAIL SAUVIGNON BLANC 2023 Marlborough, South Island This fresh, mouth-watering Sauvignon Blanc touches all the Marlborough bases. It has nice weight and a food-friendly texture, with rich tropical fruit, generous passion fruit and guava atop savoury herbs and a pinpoint minerality. Drink it by the end of 2026. After an initially sweet-fruited nose with plum, blackberry, cranberry, vanilla and a hint of smoky iodine, comes a savoury, textural palate. This is quite a rich wine with more than a hint of earth and forest floor com- plexity. There’s a lot more going on than just fruity charm and its palate really shines with excellent balance and structure, settling happily into the glass with additional time and air. Dry-farmed and organic, Clos Henri is owned by Sancerre’s Bourgeois family. Drinking window: 2024-2030.
