SICILY ORESTIADI MAZAL FRAPPATO 2022 DOC Sicilia Sweet smoke gives way to violet and lavender tones as the 2022 Frappato Mazal slowly opens in the glass. The palate is silky smooth, with ripe red and blue fruits riding a wave of brisk acidity. Gently tannic and full of youthful tension, it finishes with a tart concentration of blackberry and spice. TUSCANY CASTELLO DI AMA SAN LORENZO GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2020 DOCG ... fabulous. It It offers up a compelling mix of blackberry, graphite, crushed rocks, spice, lavender and black pepper, showing striking inner sweetness, gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and [mind]-blowing balance, all in a medium-bodied style that will be approachable with minimal cellaring. San Lorenzo remains an archetype for contemporary Chianti Classico. Production is down about 30% in 2020 because of stringent selection. Drinking window: 2025€2040. The palate has a lot of focus and a bright, refreshing spine of acidity, fine tannins, and a clean, lightly mineral-inflected savoriness on the finish. A fantastic entry to the range with a huge potential for value, drink it over the next 8€10 years. It has a lot of precision and focus at this time and will only improve with another 6€12 months in the bottle.
