FLAT ROCK RED TWISTED 2023 6 VQA Niagara Peninsula

Flat Rock Twisted 2023 is an excellent value, dry, medium-bodied and fruit-driven Niagara Peninsula red at $20. Produced from mostly Gamay with Merlot and Pinot Noir grapes added to the mix, you can count on fresh cherry, red berry, savoury herbs, cracked black pepper and cedar brush spice flavours generous on the palate with vibrant acidity for food. Enjoy it lightly chilled with roast chicken with a red currant and cranberry coulis. Drink: 2024-2026. Score: 90 (nataliemaclean.com, Oct. 19, 2024) Medium-bodied & Fruity 86918 (XD) 750 mL $19.95 2 Featured in Bring the Heat This is the top expression of Pinot at Henry of Pelham from the Old Farm Block 100 planted between 1998 and 2006. The wine was aged in European oak, 30% new, for 10 months. It has such a beautiful, lifted nose of brambly raspberry perfume, cherry/kirsch, strawberries, violets, cassis and fine oak spice. It has wonderful texture on the palate and persistent flavours from the medley of red berries, anise, red currants and spice box with a long, finessed finish. A gorgeous expression of cool climate Pinot Noir that can improve in the cellar until 2028. Score: 93 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Oct. 29, 2024) Medium-bodied & Fruity 657874 (XD) 750 mL $47.95 2 Featured in Bring the Heat HENRY OF PELHAM SPECK FAMILY RESERVE PINOT NOIR 2023 6 VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Escarpment, sustainable INNISKILLIN MONTAGUE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2022 6 VQA Four Mile Creek, Niagara-on-the-Lake This wine is structured and serious without sacrificing elegance or style. It has lifted red flowers, with ripe red fruit, cranberry, red cherry, earth and vanilla. The balance and acidity here makes this exceptionally approachable and food- friendly. A wine for grilled salmon-and-veggie

VQA Four Mile Creek, Niagara-on-the-Lake Sitting between the two water sources of Lake Ontario and Four Mile Creek, planted in 1983 on loamy clay soils. Bright ruby colour and aromas of red berries with a hint of dried herbs. Fresh acidity and surprisingly firm tannins. Nice now, but will be better with some more bottle age. Drinking window: 2022-2026. Score: 93 (Michelle Cherutti-Kowal, MW, decanter.com, Nov. 1, 2022) Light-bodied & Fruity 45883 (XD) 750 mL $29.95 2 Featured in Bring the Heat ... wild fermented and aged for 20 months in a mix of used and neutral French oak barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. I love this old-style Cab Franc with its nose of minty/eucalypt, fresh red berries, graphite, wild blueberries, herbs and lifted barrel spices. It’s rich and concentrated on the palate and leaning more toward the darker fruits of anise, blueberries and plums, with that lovely minty accent, fine tannins, solid structure, black tea notes and spice on a lifted, long finish. Can hold this wine through 2033.
