BURGUNDY BLASON DE BOURGOGNE ALIGOTÉ 2023 AC Bourgogne Aligoté This wine shows delicate floral tones atop pineapple and tangy citrus. A flinty minerality on the close gives it a pleasing, distinct character. DOMÄNE WACHAU TERRASSEN FEDERSPIEL GRÜNER VELTLINER 2023 DAC Wachau, Qualitätswein, sustainable, vegan The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Terrassen Federspiel is from terraced sites only across the Wachau and made in stainless steel with a small proportion of skin-fermented grapes. Subtle herbal savor recalls fresh hay and some dried yarrow, edged with dried lemon. Roundness and juiciness define the smooth palate, which also brings this herbal vibe alongside yellow and green pear, with textural elements of russet pear peel. It is fresh, fluid, and savory. As per a label’s meaning, “Per aspera ad astra,” from rough roads to the stars. Reiterated because this is the crux of the Nicolle situation for proprietor Charly, he who has had to work hard to bring a mom and pop Chablis estate into the modern world. A very encouraging and duly impressive Chablis at the AC Villages level, searing and intense with enough flesh to expand on the palate in spite of the conglomerate Kimmeridgian and Portlandian elements desiring to dominate. Reels at first but then constructs a necessary balance to make this a very fine wine. Way to go Charly. Drink 2024-2028. Tasted November 2024. NOVELLUM CHARDONNAY 2023 France (Jean-Marc Lafage)

Warm and round, with good energy. Orchard fruit and green plum notes are flanked by crushed stone and smoky mineral accents, plus well-integrated toasty details. ALSACE CLEEBOURG GEWURZTRAMINER 2022 AC Alsace Unmistakably gewürztraminer, this delivers an intense nose of floral spiciness that leads to a palate of musky fruit. The acid is well tailored to the fruit, and it cleans up the intensity very effectively. Overall, it’s a terrific wine, not so much for drinking on its own as for pairing with spicy cuisines – perhaps Thai and Indian mid-heat curries. Drink now to 2027. (Tasted February 2024.)
