There’s a purity and beauty to this that impresses you the minute you put your nose in the glass. So aromatic. Flowers, graphite, blackcurrants and hints of gunmetal. Medium- to full-bodied with tannins that coat your mouth but give a feeling of fine cashmere. The length and intensity is calm but rather endless. 45% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon,10% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2028. This shows a beautiful shift in character towards freshness and brightness, with lots of dried flowers and hints of sandalwood. Medium to full body with firm, fine tannins. Energetic finish. Lots of fresh herbs and pine to the fruit at the end. Pure sangiovese. Give this a couple of years, but already top-quality Chianti Classico. Best ever? There’s plenty of Panzano richness, but more energy and less heaviness than what was common just a few years ago. Giovanni Manetti and his team have given the Chianti Classico gorgeous refinement. Spice, flowers, mocha and blue fruits linger, all wrapped together by ultra-finessed tannins. The 2021 spent 20-22 months in barrel – 65% cask and 35% neutral French oak barriques. TENUTA LE MACÌE SERGIOVETO RISERVA CHIANTI CLASSICO 2021 DOCG (Famiglia Zingarelli)

... now 100 percent sangiovese from Tenuta le Maciè ... The acidity still runs high but the fruit ripe- ness has caught up and so a much more balanced wine, in the vein of let’s say Radda Chianti Classico. This is harvested in October, later than many with calcari (Alberese) soil and its outcroppings of schist-flakey Galestro. No new wood, just 3rd and 4th passage for a light covering but the fruit still stands on its own. This is very refined and sleek with mid-term aging the sure and famous guarantee. Drink 2024-2028.
