GREECE – WHITE WINE
ROUSSILLON BASTIDE MIRAFLORS SYRAH/VIEILLES VIGNES GRENACHE 2022 AP Côtes du Roussillon (Jean-Marc Lafage) A vivid, fresh and agile red with notes of dark cherries, bay leaves, black olives and wild herbs. It’s medium-bodied with plenty of crunch, verve and brightness and a seductive finish that’s full of energy. Drink or hold [till end of the decade]. Score: 91 (jamessuckling.com, May 21, 2024) Full-bodied & Smooth 320499 (XD) 750 mL $19.95 2
TSIMBIDI ASSYRTIKO 2023 PGI Laconia (Monemvasia)
Laconia is in the southeastern part of the Pelopon nese region, flanked by the Myrtoan Sea to the east and the Laconian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea to the south. These bodies of water introduce a refined ocean influence to the wines made here. This one has notions of citrus, peach, lifted herbs, and a seashell salinity. Pair it as you would a Sauvignon Blanc. Aromatic & Flavourful 35687 (XD) 750 mL $23.95 2
FRANCE – ROSÉ WINE PROVENCE M DE MINUTY ROSÉ 2024 AP Côtes de Provence
TSIMBIDI MONEMVASIA 2023 PGI Laconia (Monemvasia)
Crafted from mainly Grenache with Syrah, Cinsault and Tibouren in support, this pink wine is all about finesse and expression. Soaring citrus notes and wild herbs are underscored by saline minerality, while bright acidity lends a distinctive zip on the finish. Perfect for creamy cheeses, flavourful curries, or seafood sautéed in butter. Easygoing & Fruity 575316 (XD) 750 mL $28.95 1
A fruity, fresh, floral wine, with sweet aromas of citrus, stone fruit and wildflowers. Excellent balance and length. Ideal for fish dishes or a vega white- bean soup. Enjoy through 2027. Aromatic & Flavourful 40442 (XD) 750 mL $23.95 2
ZACHARIAS ASSYRTIKO 2023 PGI Peloponnese
Following the success of the 2022 vintage first listed at Waitrose, the 2023 doesn’t disappoint. The aromas entice of their own accord, suggesting hot stones baking under the Greek sun, with a squeeze of lemon, mint and crushed rock. There are florals too: white blossom, jasmine, beguiling and fragrant. The palate is succulent and tasty, combining florals with a zesty citrus zing and line of clear, mineral freshness. Lots of clarity here, and lots to like, this is a wine to impress your Mum with, with its really fresh and dry finish. I’d pair it with shellfish, or a mint and parsley tabbouleh. Drinking window: 2024-2027. Score: 92 (Natalie Earl, decanter.com, April 16, 2024) Aromatic & Flavourful 588814 (XD) 750 mL $18.95 2
TRIENNES ROSÉ 2024 IGP Méditerranée
Domaine de Triennes was founded in 1989 by Burgundians Jacques Seysses (Domaine Dujac) and Aubert de Villaine (DRC) and Parisian Michel Macaux. This rosé is lithe, floral and complex, with generous sunny apricot, citrus, strawberry, rasp- berry, melon, and garrigue undertones. Sip, serve for brunch with a vegan niçoise salad, or enjoy at dinner with grilled salmon or chicken. Medium-bodied & Dry 409771 (XD) 750 mL $21.95 2
