ARGENTINA RED WINE
SCHILD OLD VINE BAROSSA CHARDONNAY Barossa, South Australia
COBOS FELINO MALBEC
Mendoza, sustainable ... aged in small barriques for nine months, only 8% new. Juicy in a tantalizing combination of red and blue fruit, the tannins are soft and supple in texture and grip. The fruit is focused and ripe, fully developed, and dark and brooding in color. There’s structure to the tannins and moderate acidity, providing a foundation for the beautifully juicy red fruit and light spice. Drink now and for another 10 years. Maturity: 2025-2035. Score: 94 (Virginie Boone, jebdunnuck.com, May 22, 2025) Full-bodied & Smooth 118067 (XD) 750 ml $22.95 2 ... from 40-year-old vines planted next to the Vistalba winery, in the alluvial and stony soil on the Mendoza river’s northern bank. Following frequent pump-overs (three times a day) and a year of aging, with 60% of the volume in barrels (all used oak) and the remainder in concrete tanks, the wine o¥ers a succulent and mature expression of the variety, enveloping the palate. Make no mistake, it is not an overwhelming wine; it has acidity and tannins with just enough energy – perhaps ‘light’ is the right word – to illuminate the dark, dense fruit. It o¥ers tremen dous value for money. Score: 94 (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2026) Full-bodied & Firm 261867 (XD) 750 ml $19.95 2 FABRE MONTMAYOU RESERVA MALBEC Mendoza, sustainable, vegan
Stylish and complex, the wine presents notes of white flesh peach, rockmelon, vanillin oak, and oatmeal on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying, with excellent weight and an expan sive mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by bright acidity, which makes it focused and persistent, with a sustained, engaging finish. At its best: 2027 to 2033. Score: 94 (Sam Kim, wineorbit. co.nz, May 2025) Full-bodied & Rich 50189 (XD) 750 ml $23.95 2
AUSTRALIA RED WINE
FRANKLAND ROCKY GULLY SHIRAZ Frankland River, Western Australia
This is a good wine, and it’s good value. It’s a spicy, medium-weight style ... with bell pepper and black pepper characters wedded to cherry plum fruit. There’s also the merest whisper of musky vanilla, though oak is a low-impact player here. The tannin has a grainy, grunty aspect to it but then, it’s not overdone ... everything is positive, though a slight warmth to the alcohol is the only thing you’d point to, if you were forced ... Drink date: 2025-2030. Score: 92 (Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au, Jan. 8, 2025) Full-bodied & Smooth 33371 (XD) 750 ml $17.95 2
