Viña Tondonia is one of the few vineyards in Spain that makes a world-class red and white. Nicely mature as it moves into its second decade, this is a classic López de Heredia assemblage of Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 5% each of Graciano and Mazuelo. Complex, layered and focused, it has fine-boned tannins, racy acidity, notes of petrichor and red cherry and a nice interplay between sweetness and acidity. Drink date: 2027-2040. It was a warm year, and the grapes were picked quite ripe. They struggled a little with the fermentations, and they had di erent lots and had to play with the blending and the percentages of other vintages ... so it would be a more balanced wine ... 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacho and the remaining 5% Graciano and Mazuelo, fermented in old oak vats with their yeasts and matured in those vats and in neutral American oak barrels over seven years.
