Fruit flavours define iconic holiday tastes, from tart cranberries sauced with citrus to apple juice or cider mulled with spices. Drying or dehydrating these fruits further concentrates their sweetness and timeless flavours. From the raisins, dates and other dried fruits in holiday cakes to the classic holiday figgy pudding, these flavours are already baked into the festive season. Here, dried-fruit notes are incorporated into easy cocktails that will have you carolling and toasting in no time.
Dried fruit goes savoury, too! Use leftover prunes to braise pork, or roast a chicken surrounded by lemon and fig halves. Plump some raisins in just-steamed couscous or quinoa, and toss dried cranberries into stuffing or fold them into a soft cheese.
