October F E A S T A ROLLICKING CELEBRATION OF BEER AND FOOD? Signme up! Oktoberfest is a 200‑year old Bavarian folk fair that has spread its steins and lederhosen and turned into the globe’s best known and most beloved festival of all things German and delicious. Kitchener-Waterloo hosts the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany, but there’s no shortage of other Ontario cities and towns taking part in the revelry. Great beer and plenty to eat is at the heart of it all. You can get in on the party at home too with this menu of German-inspired comfort food with beer pairings for every course. To begin, a fondue stirred through with mustard because there are pretzels! To finish, a decadent doughnut inspired by Bavaria’s favourite dessert. In between, a Smoky New Apple & Brussels Sprouts Salad and a pot roast made with lager and plenty of aromatic long-stewed onions to sweeten the pot. Prost!
