Sourced from vines averaging 25-35 years of age, this is a charming wine with excellent refinement and character. It shows lifted white florals, well- defined fruit, and an engaging hazelnut complexity. Fresh, with a long, citrusy finish. ... Sometimes, I think I can smell texture when all the fruit seems to smell of its peel: passion fruit, pear skin and citrus zest. The palate is rounder, glowing with an inner ripeness that drips with apricot juice, but it is framed with tangerine freshness and linearity that gives this an immensely juicy balance. The classic, saline-infused mineral note faithfully reflects the influence of the millions of tiny marine fossils that compose the region’s famed Kimmeridgian limestone soils. The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Hirschvergnügen is harvested from some ancient vines in lesser- known but historic sites. Yeast, soil, pepper, crushed yarrow and fern all color the vivid pear fruit on the nose. The palate falls into a spicy-fruity, slender groove with a full flavor. (Bone-dry.)
