To me, wine means family. Many of my earliest memories are of my Italian-immigrant parents and grandparents crushing grapes in the garage, working together on their homemade wine. I’ve been lucky to experience a range of wines from all over the world and have completed the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines.”
Years ago, my family took me on a winery trip to Niagara. I was amazed at the brilliant wines we’re lucky to have growing right here in our own province. As a buyer at LCBO, I feel privileged to be bringing Ontario’s best to you. I have my WSET Level 3 and Wine Appellations of Ontario certificate.”
Over the last decade, I’ve curated my best picks as a buyer for Canada’s top gourmet food and gifting retailers. I think a lot about where wine comes from, who made it, how, and why it costs what it costs. I hope my picks inspire your confidence, earn your trust, and cause celebration!”

Wine has been my passion ever since I began my career in wine sales three decades ago. Having achieved my WSET Level 4 Diploma, I continue learning through tasting, researching and travel. My favourite way to enjoy wine is matching it with good food and good friends.”
I’ve spent 15 years growing with LCBO. The past decade has been dedicated to wine – five years as a Product Consultant and three as a buyer. As a certified sommelier, I believe wine should be easy to love, easy to share, and never too serious.”
I enjoy exploring different wine styles and uncovering ‘my flavours’ one sip at a time. I believe wine should be accessible and enjoyable for all. Having completed the WSET Level 3 Award, I’m excited to expand my knowledge and curate products customers will enjoy.”

Skin Gimme Some Want a summer sipper with a twist? Orange wines are made from white grapes but vinified like reds, with prolonged skin and lees contact during fermentation. This approach unlocks layers of depth and character you don’t find in your average white wine. Plus, a brassy orange or amber hue. The extended skin contact (and the wild yeast used in many orange wines) imparts flavours of dried stone fruit, citrus peel, honey, tea and spice. With the brightness of a white wine and the structure of a red, orange wine is uniquely food-friendly and pairs with grilled seafood, pulled pork, mushroom burgers, falafel and hummus. Or try it with Food & Drink ’s new Seven-Layer Dip recipe. Find the recipe and many more at lcbo.com/vintagesfdrecipes

LOCAL TALENT ONTARIO, THE HOME OF CHARDONNAY Chardonnay is the most popular white wine in the world, and when produced in regions and vineyards that suit the variety perfectly, can reveal a sense of place with an ethereal, dynamic, stunning accuracy. Winemakers in Niagara and Prince Edward County are crafting Chardonnays that rank among the finest anywhere. Here are four premium-quality examples from our own backyard that will make impressive additions to your summer dining.
The soils of Prince Edward County have a high limestone content and a shallow topsoil layer. These limestone- rich soils impact the tension, acidity, ageability and mineral character of the wines. PEC Chardonnays are often described as being reminiscent of Chablis and are crafted to reflect a Burgundian sensibility; High praise for these singular expressions. Volta Amphora Knotty Vines Vineyard Chardonnay 2024 is fermented and aged in clay amphorae. These neutral vessels allow the wine to soften and develop a round texture similar to what’s achieved with oak, but with- out acquiring any oak influence.
Breezes off Lake Ontario cool the Niagara Peninsula during the summer and help reduce the risk of frost during the winter. A wide range of soils including clay, sand, silty loam and limestone, combined with the area’s differing elevations, permit many grape varieties to flourish here, but the region is particularly suited to Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Domaine Queylus Tradition Chardonnay 2024 is sourced from the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation; an area defined by the long shallow slope of the ancient glacial lakebed now known as the Lake Iroquois Plain. Complex, elegant and fruity, this wine reveals the distinct finesse and precision of Lincoln Lakeshore with an easy grace.
Vinemount Ridge is gaining increased attention as wines such as the Westcott Reserve Chardonnay 2024 continue to raise the bar in this Niagara Peninsula sub-appellation. Situated at the western edge of Niagara wine country and just above the Niagara Escarpment, Vinemount Ridge receives no direct lake influence and so is warmer than other areas. But altitude, prevailing winds, and cool nights allow the grapes to main- tain their superb acidity as they ripen, encouraging wines of exciting aromatic complexity. This wine saw a total of 14 months in oak, and yet the regional influence here creates a wine of such balance that it possesses an almost weightless character.
18 VINTAGES
The four wines featured here will all be poured, alongside many of the world’s finest Chardonnays, at this year’s International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration (i4C) in Niagara July 16-19. Visit coolchardonnay.org for details.

Cloudsley Twenty Mile Bench Chardonnay 2024 is sourced from the Foxcroft and Wingfield vineyards in the Twenty Mile Bench; an area of gently rolling hills comprising a com- plex assortment of shale, limestone and clay soils. The region’s undulating topography creates opportunities for winemakers to exploit the unique, varying sun exposures and micro- climates created by the slopes and valleys. This means that grapes sourced from different vineyards, or even different parts of the same vineyard, can reflect varying degrees of complexity, freshness, intricate aromatics and sharply defined minerality, allowing winemakers to accentuate particular aspects from each site in the final blend.
